Glucosamine sulfate/chondroitin sulfate

Dose: 500 mg/400 mg three times/day (maximum dose 1,500/1,200)

Topical analgesic


Dose: 0.025% or 0.075% Apply to affected joint three to four times/day


High-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid (Lubricates the joint during motion and shock absorption during rapid movements)

Sodium hyaluronate

Dose: Hyalgan (20 mg/2 mL) and Supartz (25 mg/2.5 mL) injected once weekly for five injections.

Hylan polymers

Dose: Synvisc (16 mg/2 mL) injected once weekly for three injections


Dose: Orthovisc (30 mg/2 mL) injected once weekly for three injections
